Garden Muses are as unique as the garden itself

My sister in law's garden was inspired through a different channel.

Note the common milkweed that towers over the gnome.

Even though her vegetable rows are straight and weed free, she spared this prairie native guest because she wanted the monarchs to feel welcome.

  1. I've been thinking about the curvy vs. straight row planting. The curvy rows bring an aesthetic experience to the vegetable garden, whereas the straight rows create the feeling of work/ oversight/efficiency. I wonder if I can make that switch... busy little ant that I am. If the garden is small space or raised beds wouldn't the straight rows work better -- for more produce, anyway?

Depends on the size of the garden...with very small spaces, fill the whole thing up and let the plants support each other under your busy ant watchful eye. For large spaces, having straight rows does save time if you're using a small tiller to keep the space between the rows weed free.
